Project

I am a huge fan of the Stronghold-franchise. In my opinion Stronghold Crusader is still the best installment but with the years it became less challenging so I decided to redesign the AI-profiles for the skirmish-mode.

The goal was simple: Increase the difficulty by letting the enemies build better castles. The not so simple part was to maintain the individual building style of the AI-character. So I basically improved the defenses and the economy by giving the castles a more effective layout. I also slowed some AIs a bit down so that they don’t rush that hard anymore. This MOD is nearly finished it just needs a bit more polishing.

Please note!

Some AIs still have problems with small maps. Also if you let them start with only 2.000 gold some might need much more time than intended to build their castle. I’m about to fix that as soon as possible.

Installation and download

1: Download the file “SHC-AI Pack.zip” from this page.

2: Remove the old AI-files. You will find them in the following directory: “[Installation directory]Stronghold Crusader Extreme HDaiv”. (In case you want to play again with the old files you should save them in a new directory.)

3: Unpack “SHC-AI Pack.zip” and insert the AI-files in the “aiv”-directory of your game.

4: Start the game and have fun!

If you want to play with these files in the multiplayer please ensure that EVERY participating player has installed this mod correctly!

Stronghold Crusader is an extremely popular real-time strategy game. This time the action takes place in the world of the Middle East at the time of the Crusades.

The game Stronghold Crusader was mainly addressed to enthusiasts of the so-called simulators of fortress defense. The game lets you build your fortress from scratch, ensure the safety and food to your people. The main aim is to extend your fortress and fend off Muslim attacks, however nothing crosses on yours path to conquer the enemy castle from time to time.

The latest brings even more improvements, such as four separate single-player campaigns in which we lead the European chivarly under the leadership of Richard the Lionheart, as well as Arab warriors led by Saladin. This makes the game even more interesting. In addition to this, the players are empowered with new divisions, such as the Teutonic Knights, horse archers, and more. In total, there are almost 25 military units to choose from.

Stronghold Crusader provides a rich collection of siege machines, including mangonels, ballista, trebuchets, towers, and more. There are also powerful defense tools like the moats, boiling oil, and so on. You can also create your own scenarios using editors and use it in a multiplayer game on the Internet or LAN. If you enjoy historically themed strategy games, Stronghold Crusader is the right choice.
